Eagle E-Types Lightweight GTR

The team at Peterson Instrument Co. are no strangers to the Jaguar E-Type and have been restoring and upcycling E-Type instrumentation since the start, with them being one of our most popular sets. Over the past year we’ve progressed our vision and designed and manufactured our own brand-new E-Type instruments, with a fresh look to include all our latest electronics, manufacturing and printing methods.

Manufacturing analogue instruments from new means that we can include our in-gauge electronics, which are designed to R10 EMC standards and have space-saving benefits compared to our control box product and upcycled gauges. The instruments have also progressed to include a digital odometer and trip, state-of-the-art lighting, new billet cases and face plates, and machined solid faces to enable customisable design features for the ultimate bespoke look.

Excellent timing as you may have seen the incredible Eagle E-Types have just launched their bespoke Lightweight GTR, the lightest, quickest and most agile E-Type ever and we were honoured to provide our fresh new instruments to such a celebrated company for the launch of this special vehicle.

Last November, during an awe-inspiring tour around the Eagle workshops and showroom, we had the chance to really appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into each Eagle E-Type and we looked forward to getting stuck into a design that would be of a quality only fitting for a company like this.

For the Eagle Speedometer, Peterson Instrument Co. have created both MPH and KMH versions. The original KMH print was very cluttered with markings, so we re-designed the face to allow for a more symmetrical design with the Eagle logo, MPH and RPM at the top, leaving room for a subtle OLED odometer and Trip at the bottom.

On the subject of printing, there’s reverse black and white, white pearlescent faces chosen by the customer and an enhanced redline for the new GTR. Lighting design continues to be important to us and in this case 4000k LED lights gives a modern-vintage hybrid glow at night.

Unique to Peterson Instrument Co. is our permanent 12v feed to the gauges, which gives the customer the option to sweep (or not) on start-up. For the Eagle project we opted for no start-up pointer sweeps, which was more in-keeping with the original analogue feel.

Collaborating with Eagle E-Types has been a great experience for the team at Peterson Instrument Co. If you haven’t read December’s issue of Octane magazine, check it out over your next coffee for an in-depth review of the amazing new Lightweight GTR.
